Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has earned a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV, (then WTOP), in Washington DC. The following year, she was a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. Beginning in 1981 she started reporting from the White House. In 1988 she was named head of the congressional reporters. Mitchell was named chief White House correspondent by NBC News in the year 1992. Mitchell was the host and panelist for the TV news program Meet the Press. Mitchell was on an audience for the debates of 1988 between George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded numerous honors for her journalism achievements, such as her Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. She was also honored with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award by Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell started covering the White House in 1981-1988, and during the presidency of Ronald Reagan. She covered many notable issues, such as the weapons control, budget taxes and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went to various summits while in the company of President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
